Schools

We deliver an extensive programme of creative learning projects each year, working with schools across the North East. From curriculum led work and classroom based learning to enrichment and after school activities, our work is diverse and vibrant.

We work with schools to provide bespoke learning packages and provide our own menu of creative packages.

We are a Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) theatre partner, a Children’s Theatre Partenrship (CTP) theatre and have Investors in Children status.

Our Schools programme of work offers activities for students and teachers at all levels of education.

Supports teachers with the integration of the arts into their curriculum

Increases participation of young people in vital cultural opportunities

Supports the development of students’ literacy and communication skills

Increases the well-being and resilience of students

Provides show related learning and enriching cultural visits and experiences

Supports pathways into the creative arts sector for post 16 students

We offer bespoke workshop packages to help you facilitate your desired learning outcomes or extra curricular requirement. All of our workshops are led by professional artists, each working professionally in their field. We have a standard menu of workshop sessions and visits which we can adapt to suit your needs, All workshops can be tailored for young children from Early Years, to older, Secondary age students. Option 1

A half term of weekly, half day long workshops with one practitioner learning different drama techniques and confidence building skills, working towards a performance at the end of the half term.

Option 2

Backstage tour at Theatre Royal. Tours are available Tuesday – Friday mornings, excluding matinee days. Maximum student group size 30, plus maximum of 5 accompanying staff. Tours last up to 90 minutes.

Option 3

Theatre careers talk delivered by 2 members of Theatre Royal staff, covering a number of job roles within the organisation and industry, with a chance to ask questions and see a little bit behind the scenes. 90 minutes.

Option 4

Show specific workshop with one creative practitioner, pre-performance. Lunch may be eaten on site prior to a matinee performance. Tickets for the show must be purchased separately. Maximum group size 30 students. Also available post/evening shows.

Option 5

Stand alone workshop, in school or at Theatre Royal, with one practitioner or two practitioners for larger groups. These sessions can be tailored to any classroom, curriculum or enrichment activity or theme. Workshops available from 60 minutes to full day.

Option 6

You decide! If you having a burning project idea you would like our help with, would like a mixture of all of our menu or plan to do something that our menus don’t cover, just let us know. Our minimum workshop requirement is 60 minutes and 1 creative practitioner.
