Youth Company

We are delighted to share our new programme, Theatre Royal Youth.

TRY is for young people to take part, learn, develop and have fun at Newcastle Theatre Royal.

We strive to increase the number of opportunities for people of all ages to engage in theatre and the arts. We are particularly keen to support the development of young people, artists and makers, investing in the sustainability of the sector and our organisation.

We know that many of the young people we work with enjoy the social aspects of Youth theatre, meeting new people and having fun. We also know that some of the young people we work with will be the people who run and perform at Theatre Royal in the future.

With this in mind, we have developed a new programme of work that will not only provide a pathway into our professional actor training company, Project A, for those who wish to pursue a Theatre career, but also continue to provide the confidence and social development support for young people who don’t want to work in Theatre.

Our brand-new programme, Youth Company, is for young people aged  16 – 20, who are looking for a safe and welcoming space to explore their creativity, connect with others, as well as develop performance skills and learn more about theatre and the other roles required to create live performances.

Youth Company perform one large scale production per year.

This year we will be working with National Theatre Connections to stage a brand-new production as part of our very own Connections Festival in April 2025.

Youth Company is delivered in weekly, 2-hour sessions with auditions held in October.

Applications for our 2025 Company are now closed. Applications for our 2026 Company will open in September 2025.
