Youth Theatre

We are delighted to share our new programme, Theatre Royal Youth.

TRY is for young people to take part, learn, develop and have fun at Newcastle Theatre Royal.

We strive to increase the number of opportunities for people of all ages to engage in theatre and the arts. We are particularly keen to support the development of young people, artists and makers, investing in the sustainability of the sector and our organisation.

We know that many of the young people we work with enjoy the social aspects of Youth theatre, meeting new people and having fun. We also know that some of the young people we work with will be the people who run and perform at Theatre Royal in the future.

With this in mind, we have developed a new programme of work that will not only provide a pathway into our professional actor training company, Project A, for those who wish to pursue a Theatre career, but also continue to provide the confidence and social development support for young people who don’t want to work in Theatre.

Youth Theatre is for young people in school years 5 – 13 (aged 9-18) to meet new people, learn new skills and develop their own plays, as well as building upon confidence and wellbeing. Sessions are delivered weekly, last for 90 minutes and run over the course of an academic year in three distinct terms; Develop, Explore & Create.

The Create term will culminate in the performance of the devised work in our newly refurbished Studio Theatre. We will also invite parents to drop in to an informal sharing session during each of the Develop & Explore terms.

The cost for each term is £85.
