We are in the heart of Newcastle, easily accessible by public transport and with a number of car parks close by.

Most parking meters around the theatre are free after 6.30pm. Please note: after 6.30pm the south side of Shakespeare Street (the side opposite the theatre) becomes a taxi rank and parking here is prohibited; many people have received tickets for not realising this. The north side of Shakespeare Street (the theatre side) continues to have free parking after 6.30pm
There is free parking after 5pm in selected Newcastle City Council-owned car parks as part of NE1's Alive After Five scheme. Click here for more information
Grainger Town car park (Waterloo Square) is open 24hrs, Manors until 10pm and Quayside and Dean Street car parks are open to midnight. Please be aware that Dean Street car park often has long wait times on exit. Other Newcastle City Council car parks may close earlier in the evening, so please consider this in your plans. New Bridge Street car park is now closed.
John Dobson Street is open until 11.29pm and Carliol Square (which has pedestrian access onto Pilgrim Street) is open 24hrs.
Other operators have car parks in the Central Station, Gate and Chinatown areas - all of which are within walking distance of the Theatre Royal and City Hall.
There is one parking space for blue badge holders on Shakespeare Street and three on Hood Street. Most parking meters are free to Blue Badge Holders.
Alight at Monument Metro Station and follow the signs for the Theatre Royal. We are less than one minute's walk from the Metro entrance on Grey Street.

Travel free on the Metro with your theatre ticket (up to two hours before and after the performance) - simply retain your theatre ticket for inspection by Metro Staff. At stations with ticket gates in operation, show your ticket to the member of Metro staff on duty at the gates.
This scheme does NOT apply to performances at City Hall

The Theatre Royal is only ten minutes walk from the Haymarket bus station and many buses stop in Blackett Street and Market Street by the Monument.
